Home renovation in Florida is on the rise. Especially in Sarasota, homeowners are buying properties that have the bones of a livable place but lack the style or up-to-date functionality that a southwest Florida coastal calls for.

We have designed numerous renovations in already built custom homes over the years and our most recent design took us to the Oaks in Osprey, Florida. The savvy homeowners bought the property for nearness to golf courses and the seclusion from the bustle of Siesta Key beach traffic. The original plan lacked cohesion in the kitchen and some other areas needed broadening.

When they asked us to design for updating and expanding some spaces for the east and west wings of the house, among the most important concerns were the need for 1) a “spa” master bath, and 2) more closet space in the master suite.

Becoming increasingly popular, spa-like master bath suites usually boast larger square footage, separate his and hers amenities, luxury finishes such as precious stone countertops and specialty flooring like wood flooring polished marble, and as well, often utilize high-tech bathroom appliance/equipment such as noiseless fans and “smart” toilets . The clients asked especially that it be predominantly white with a sophisticated/casual vibe. A seamless glass shower coupled with the white marble floors and warm white cabinets completed the delivery of all the elegance this bath suite needed.

Closet space is another item that most homeowners/renovators will tell you they need more of. Equally specified as the larger master bath area was the request for more closet area in the master suite, including built-ins, vanity and walk-in closet. His and hers options applied to this too, so making the most of the space by designing to both clients’ spatial needs was key. The walk-in closet was expanded and designed with custom cabinetry, and on the opposite facing wall, two towers of drawers and cabinets were installed surrounding the sit-down vanity.

Along with these rooms, we also completely re-designed and enlarged the rest of the master suite, the kitchen, the family room, all the guest bathrooms and all the new custom built-ins throughout the house. Using our design-build experience with our sister company Marazul Building, we were able to set a realistic budget for the client within their expectations and proceeded with the design using the clients’ input, which was extremely integral to the project.

Pictures of this project will be forthcoming to the site. Check us out on Houzz, Facebook or Instagram to follow the latest Las Casitas Architecture news!
